A Certificate of Deposit, also known as a CD, is an investment option that allows you to lock in a great rate over a fixed period. You can add funds that you will not need to access for at least six months (there is a penalty for early withdrawal).

When investing your money into a CD, you can choose from one of the following terms:

• 6 months
• 12 months (1 year)
• 24 months (2 years)
• 36 months (3 years)
• 48 months (4 years)
• 60 months (5 years)

You can also choose from a regular certificate of deposit or an IRA certificate, which gives you the added benefit of tax-deferred earnings.
