2025 Scholarship Contest

Call for entries!

Century Credit Union is dedicated to supporting the educational aspirations of young people. To demonstrate our commitment, we are once again awarding up to four scholarships and up to $3,000 total this year to students in two different age categories: 13-15 and 16-18. This makes our competition unique in the local market, as no other financial institution offers scholarship competition for younger teens. Others usually award to graduating high school seniors only.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in each of the aforementioned age categories. An extra scholarship ($500) may be given in each category depending on the number of entries received in it.

Scholarships are based on merit, with the following criteria used in the judging process:

  • Scholastic record
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Volunteer work
  • A written essay

Essay topics

  • For students between 13 and 15 years old as of March 1, 2025 (250-500 words):

If you had the power to redesign U.S. currency, which individual would you
Choose to appear on the front of a U.S. bill, and why?

You can select anyone – past or present, living or deceased – who has made a significant
impact on American society, culture, or history.

    Choose one of the following denominations ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100) and explain
why you believe their image should be represented on that particular bill.

What qualities or accomplishments make this person deserving of such recognition, and
what message would their inclusion on U.S. currency send to future generations?

  • For students between 16 and 18 years old as of March 1, 2025 (500-1,000 words):

The election is over, and you are now the President of the United States.
As the leader of the nation, you have the opportunity to shape its future.

What is your top priority for your first year in office, and why is it the most
urgent? Feel free to include a second priority, but be sure to explain why these
issues matter now and how you would address them.

How would your decisions impact the country both in the short term and long?
